I'm not quite sure when the big wedding season switched from June/July to November, but it seems like everyone is getting married this month. O.k., well not everyone, but there are two seriously cute girls I know getting married in the next week. Being almost 10 years out from my own wedding, I have no idea what to give today's bride (especially when they don't register anywhere and aren't having a reception). So, here's what I came up with:
Sorry about the lame photography. I tried to "fill out" the apron by tying it around a pillow. Not sure it worked quite the way I had hoped. Anyway, this apron was made using Amy Butler's Midwest Modern fabric line and a pattern from this fun apron book:
But, I couldn't stop there...you know I just can't control myself. I'd never sewn with insulated batting until now, but I had the perfect excuse to try it out. I just used a basic pinwheel pattern and made a matching hot pad:
But, I couldn't stop there either, so this was added:
I know, I know...what in the heck is that? Another Amy Butler pattern (can you tell I like Amy Butler...!) This was from her book, In Stitches, and inside are these little gems:
Just some of my favorite recipes. I included recipes for:
-
Pop-up Pancakes a/k/a German Pancakes
-
Cranberry Slush
-
Strawberry Cheesecake Dessert (I'll love you forever for this one Janelle...but my thighs are paying for it!)
-
Cheesy Chicken & Potato Soup
-
Friday Night Breadsticks
-
Hot Tamale Dip
I laminated them because if anyone else cooks like me, you need to keep these things protected! I only have one set of everything ready, with one more to make. I think I'll try a different apron and definitely different fabrics. So that will be coming up. I hope that they like this gift idea and that it will be useful to them.
And since I was making multiple sets anyway, I thought it was about time for another giveaway. So here's the deal...leave a comment on this post with your most memorable wedding gift (or if you aren't married, something you think would make a great wedding gift) and I'll draw two winners on Saturday, November 15th. You'll get all the laminated set of 6 recipes in your own cute little bag.
