I'm currently serving as the secretary in the Primary Presidency and have found so many useful resources on-line and spent so many hours preparing for the new year and theme, I hope that someone else may find this information helpful.
My very-first on-line go to for all things supplemental LDS themed: SUGARDOODLE. This is such a great resource no matter what auxiliary you may be serving in.
Here are some files that I created for the new year:
Download Letter to TeachersThis was included in the front of every teacher's binder with their manual. We hope they know how important their calling is.
Download 24 Beanbag IdeasWe are giving each teacher a laminated copy of this list of ideas along with a little beanbag we made for each of them. Sometimes, it's pretty dang hard to fill an hour of class time, especially with little children.
Download Ideas to fill timeAnother wonderful list of ideas to help teachers fill class time without playing hang man every week like my teachers would do when I was in Primary.
Download Primary Schedule 2009This one is in Word format so feel free to adjust and use for your own ward. This will hopefully help keep us on task and everyone knows what their responsibilities are every month.
Download Beeing reverentThese are adorable stickers that I found on-line. (I don't recall where they came from, but I cannot take credit for them.) Just print them on Avery labels and use for the reverent children each week. Works wonders in Junior Primary.
Download New Members FormThis is a form that we keep on hand to have new families fill out when they move in. Sometimes it takes a while for records to get transferred so this helps us keep our records updated and correct when new families move in.
Other things that we have done that seem to work in our primary:
We keep a master roll that we send around in sharing time in Jr. and Sr. Primary. This saves me, as the secretary, from wandering the halls all Sunday and from losing rolls. Since we have to turn in reports every 3 months, there were often times in the past when teachers would not turn in rolls or would lose them. This keeps it all in the Primary room and also frees me up to help with Sharing Time or anything else that happens during Primary. We still deliver separate rolls to the nursery.
We share a building with two other wards and we rotate decorating the Primary room. 2009 is our year. Here's a little peek at what we did to decorate the room. Still more to be done, but it's close:
The leaves represent each individual family in our ward. We are hoping to focus on the fact that there are diferent types of families and that our ward is a family as well. The theme for 2009 is My Eternal Family and we want to be sensitive to the fact that many children don't have a "traditional" family, but a family nonetheless.
Hope these ideas and or forms are helpful to someone serving in Primary!
