O.k., so I don’t look anything like Julia Roberts, but what she portrayed in Erin Brockovich is my real day job…sort of. I don’t get to dress like she did, and the area of law I work in is not quite as interesting these days. Hmmm, so maybe this wasn’t the best analogy, huh? Well, when I’m asked what I do for work and I say, “I’m a paralegal,” I get the glazed over look and a subtle, “Ohhh,” which to me says, “So the heck do you really do?” So, I think it’s easier to say, “Did you see that movie, Erin Brockovich? That’s me. That’s what I do.”
So….with that long, awkward, too-many-quotation marks-introduction, that’s what I’ve been busy with the last few days…being Erin Brockovich. For those who don’t know, I spent 7 years working for an insurance defense firm doing defense personal injury work, mostly. I did work on some plaintiff’s PI cases. The diversity of the type of cases I was able to work on was pretty interesting. Car accidents, dog bites, medical malpractice, bobsled injuries, drowning, electric cows…seriously people, electric cows. It’s amazing what people file lawsuits for. But these days, I deal strictly with individuals trying to obtain their social security benefits. Just not quite as exciting, but a very necessary process for a lot of people. It’s actually quite a depressing area of law to work in. So that’s what I’ve been drowning in these days.
There has been some sewing going on in the wee hours of the night/early morning. Look for that post coming soon. Now you have a little insight into why crafting and sewing really are therapy for me.
It's so fun isn't it? (by the way, loved your analogys)
